Competence Center Digital Research at MSCJ
The Michael Stifel Center Jena establishes the Competence Center Digital Research as first contact point for all questions related to digitized research. It provides joined expertise and covers the range from mere service up to enabling collaborative research on topics like machine learning, semantic web, high-performance computing, research data management, data exploration and visualization.
For starting the Competence Center there are four vacancies:
- Scientific Project Leader (Reg.-No. 284/2020): establishment of the Competence Center and execution of operational tasks, including the integration of the Competence Center into the structures and processes of Friedrich Schiller University Jena and Michael Stifel Center Jena (MSCJ) as well as the development and coordination of its services
- High-Performance Computing Expert as Scientific Developer (Reg.-No.285/2020): performance optimization and porting of scientific software, parallelization of serial application codes, programming of HPC systems, development of parallel and distributed algorithms as well as conceptualization of trainings
- Research Data Management Expert as Scientific Developer (Reg.-No. 286/2020): selection and operation of data management platforms as well as development and adaptation of data management platforms for dedicated applications
- Expert in Visualization and Data Exploration as Scientific Developer (Reg.-No. 287/2020): provision of tools and administration of services for visualization of information, scientific visualization and visual analytics, development and adaptation of procedures for visualization and data exploration for dedicated applications
Please send your application (cover letter) including the required supporting documents (curriculum vitae in tabular form, certificates, publication list) providing the respective Reg.-No. in a single .pdf-file via e-mail until 15.11.2020 to the scientific coordinator of MSCJ, Dr. Bettina Färber (bettina.faerber@uni-jena.de).
DLR Institute of Data Science
At the DLR Institute of Data Science, a new research group on “Machine Learning” is established. The building phase is in cooperation with the DLR Institute of Remote Sensing in Oberpfaffenhofen and the Friedrich Schiller University Jena. Additional scientific and industrial partners within and outside of DLR are planned. Novel methods and techniques for machine learning shall be developed, in particular in the area of deep learning with neural networks (DNNs). Herein, solutions shall in particular address applications from astronautics (e.g., earth observation, robotics, etc.) and be adapted to their specific requirements. Furthermore, the developed methods shall be investigated and assessed for different kinds of training data and known physical relations shall be integrated in the learning algorithms.
For the research group, the DLR IDS is looking for a head (Computer Scientist, Mathematician or similar) for 3 years and starting immediately. Please apply online via the button on the bottom of the job advertisement page. In case you need more information or have questions, please get in touch with Dr. Marcus Paradies (acting leader of department “Data Management and Analysis”, marcus.paradies@dlr.de) or Dr. Yanira Guanche Garcia (administration, yanira.guanchegarcia@dlr.de).
